Pittsville…..Helen Parker Owen, age 91 of Pittsville died Friday, August 30, 2013 at her residence.
Born May 10, 1922 in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of the late Esther Floyd Parker and Martha Craft Parker. She was predeceased by her husband, John Harvey Owen, Sr.; one brother, Edward Parker; and one sister, Esther Beasley. Mrs. Owen was a member of New Bethel Church of the Brethren, and was a home maker. She was a member of the Climax Ruritan Club, volunteered at Gretna Health and Rehab Center, and enjoyed spending time with her family.
She is survived by two sons, John Owen, Jr. and wife, Katie of Penhook, and David Owen and wife, Carolyn of Pittsville; two sisters, Emily Matherly of Danville, and Hilda Basham of Roanoke; five grandchildren, Melissa Hines and husband, Ben of Chatham, Michelle Owen of Penhook, Adam Owen and wife, Samantha of Pittsville, Russell Owen and wife, Kayla of Penhook, and Cory Owen of Pittsville; and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 A.M. Monday, September 2, 2013 at Colbert-Moran Chapel by Rev. Leo Johnson. Burial will follow in the Owen Family Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 P.M. Sunday, September 1, 2013 at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home and other times will be at the residence of her son and daughter-in-law David and Carolyn Owen, 600 Darby Road, Pittsville.
