Helen Bennett Cocke

Gretna.........Helen Bennett Cocke, age 87 of 137 Taylors Mill Road, Gretna died Wednesday, August 4, 2010 at Gretna Health & Rehab.
Born January 25, 1923 in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of the late John Eddie Bennett and Ava Graves Bennett. She was predeceased by her husband of over 67 years, Gordon Cocke; three brothers, Frank Bennett, Edward Bennett and Harold Bennett, Sr.; two sisters, Iris Price and Ava Mae Kelley. Mrs. Cocke was retired employee of the Pittsylvania County Schools, a member of Anderson Memorial United Methodist Church, a member of the Gretna Chapter No. 118 Order of the Eastern Star, the Gretna Lioness Club, a member of Gretna American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Unit 232 and was a charter member of Gretna Weed & Weep Garden Club. She was an avid gardener, homemaker, enjoyed quilting, bridge and traveling with her husband. Mrs. Cocke was a graduate of Gretna High School and attended Phillips Business College.
She is survived by two sons, Richard Cocke and wife Paula of Gretna, and Raymond Cocke and wife, Pat of Gretna; two daughters, Gail Ferguson and husband, Bobby of Gretna, and Ava Lee Bernish and husband, Bill of Clemmons, NC; one brother, Floyd Bennett of Gretna; 10 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 7, 2010 at the Colbert-Moran Chapel by Rev. John Snyder. Burial will follow in Gretna Burial Park.
The family will receive friends at the residence.
