Hazel Jeanette Barbour (also known as Nannie Banana), age 73 of Hurt, Virginia passed away at Lynchburg General Hospital on Monday, September 16, 2024 with family by her side.

Born November 7, 1950 at her childhood home in Penhook, Virginia to the late Walter Reevie Jefferson and Mildred McCrickard Jefferson. She is predeceased by her siblings; a beloved stillborn son, Ava Dixon, Otha Barbour and Clarence Barbour; and her faithful cat of 17 years, Precious.

Mrs. Barbour attended Altavista Church of Christ faithfully for thirty-four years. Through all her many trials and tribulations in life she remained faithful. At the young age of 36 her and Robert expressed the desire to follow Jesus Christ and were baptized into Christ at Liberty Christian Church. She was a faithful employee to BGF Industries for  34 years. She enjoyed hummingbirds and watching the television show, Gunsmoke.

In Heaven she will be awaiting a glorious reunion with the love of her life, her husband of 57 years, Robert James Barbour of the residence.  She is also survived by her daughter, Jeanette Blair and husband, Scotty of Gretna; two grandchildren, Angel Tuck and husband, Ashley of Gretna and David "Davey" Richardson III and wife, Shannon of Hurt; five great-grandchildren, Christopher Crews, Chloe Crews, Amelia Tuck, Trista Richardson and Anthony Richardson; several siblings,  Janice Roach of Gretna, Judy Kay Shelton of Gretna, J.T. Jefferson of Pollock Pines, CA; Ronnie Jefferson (Marie) of Penhook, Chrispen Jefferson of Rocky Mt., Raymond Jefferson (Barbara) of Rocky Mount, Linda Gail Smith (Forest) of Hurt, Madeline Clark (Jerry) of Lynchburg, Kathy Brumfield of Gretna, Virginia Almond of Gretna and Valerie Blankenship of Rocky Mount; an abundance of nieces and nephews; and special friends, Gloria Godfrey and Brenda Owens.

A Memorial Service will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 18, 2024 at Altavista Church of Christ, 1301 Avondale Drive, Altavista, VA 24517 by Larry Evans, Minister and Lory Brafford, Minister. Following the memorial service there will be fellowship and refreshments at the church.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 18, 2024 at Altavista Church of Christ and other times will be at the residence.
