Atlanta, GA…..Harold Scott "Scotty" Barker, Jr., 66, of Atlanta, Georgia, died Thursday, November 16, 2017. Born in Lynchburg, Virginia May 29, 1951, he was the son of Edith Marr Barker of Danville and the late Harold Scott Barker, Sr.
In addition to his father, he was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Elsie Robertson Marr and Victor Adams Marr, and paternal grandparents, Daisy Jacobs Barker and Clinton Scott Barker.
Scotty was a graduate of Gretna High School and earned a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from Virginia Tech. He served in the United States Marine Corps in Japan, the Philippines and Vietnam, and for a second enlistment at Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point. He served honorably, earning the rank of Sergeant and received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal for both enlistments, Sea Service Deployment Medal and Meritorious Mast.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by sisters Debby Barker and Robin Barker (Seward Anderson) and niece, Kathleen Moore, all of Danville; and nephew, Dr. Adams Moore of Rome Georgia.
A graveside service with full military honors by American Legion Altavista Post 36 and Gretna Post 232 will be conducted at the Barker Family Cemetery, Telegraph Road, Hurt, Saturday, December 16th at 2:00 p.m. by Ronnie Simpson.
