Gretna……….Harold "Sonny" Sawyer Jones, age 70 of Gretna died Saturday, August 3, 2024 at Centra Lynchburg General Hospital.

Born September 18, 1953 in North Carolina, he was a son of the late Bert Eve Jones and Loretta Sawyer Jones.  He was predeceased by one sister, Martha Robertson and one nephew, Bobby L. Pendergrass.  Mr. Jones was a member of Sycamore Baptist Church.  He loved his dip and watching Westerns.  He also loved his niece and caregiver, Jenny who looked after him and his dogs, Cookie, Sugy and Bailey.

He is survived by one brother, Jerry Jones of Gretna; one sister, Shirley Pendergrass of Gretna; three nieces, Jenny Garrett of Hurt, Sally Shelton of Gretna and Wanda Rawlings of Gretna; two nephews, Stevy Robertson of Gretna and Phillip Pendergrass and wife, Tiffany of Gretna; five great-nieces, Sierra, Maddy, Alyssa, Karen and Lisa; eight great-nephews, Joey, Caleb, Jessy, Richard, Jr., Phillip, Jr., Dacoda, Jeremy and Kenneth; four great-great-nieces and one great-great-nephew and one great-great-nephew on the way.

Graveside services will be conducted 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 6, 2024 at Pittsville Pentecostal Holiness Church Cemetery by Rev. Bobby Brumfield.
