Gretna………Harold Stanley Johnson, Sr. age 88 of Gretna died Thursday, December 24, 2020 at Heritage Green Assisted Living in Lynchburg.
Born February 4, 1932 in Lynchburg, he was a son of the late William Lyman Johnson and Daisy Estelle Wood Johnson. He was predeceased by two brothers, Lyman Johnson and Edward Johnson. Mr. Johnson was a member of the First Baptist Church of Gretna. He graduated from Lynchburg College; and was a math teacher, entrepreneur and track and basketball coach. He was a partner in People's Building Supply; and enjoyed the times spent at Craig Creek and the beach. Mr. Johnson loved spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife, Amaryllis Maxey Johnson of the residence; three sons, Stan Johnson and wife, Andrea of Gretna, Steve Johnson of Roanoke, and Gary Johnson and wife, Jeanette of Gretna; two daughters, Joan McDougal and husband, Patrick of Belmont, NC, and Ellen Reed and husband, Greg of Eagle Rock; two sisters, Gaynelle Shively of Lynchburg, and Rebecca Harker and husband, Jack of Lynchburg; seven grandchildren, Andrew Johnson and wife, Ashley, Cheryl Boswell and husband, Joseph, Craig Johnson and girlfriend, Lindsey Evans, Jared Johnson and wife, Casey, Anthony Scruggs and fiancée, Jessica Boswell, Emily Scruggs and boyfriend, Spencer Wren, and Remington Parr; and four great-grandchildren, Cohen Johnson, Jaylynn Johnson, Kailynne Boswell and Liam Scruggs.
Graveside services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 31, 2020 at Carl O. Moran Memorial Garden by Rev. Bob Ballance.
The family would like to give a special thank you to all the staff at Heritage Green in Lynchburg and Gentle Shepherd Hospice for the care they provided the last few years.
