Obituary

Gretna…..Hallie Marie Stone Nuckols Oakes
Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, Hallie Marie Stone Nuckols Oakes, was born January 30, 1937 to the late Fred and Hallie Stone. She followed two sisters into the world; her late sister Virginia Stone Snavely and her sister Frederica Stone Paul. She grew up with a love of our Lord, family, friends and music, and these qualities carried her through life.

She was predeceased by her husband, Daniel Edward "Ned" Nuckols, and was mother to their children; the late Danny Nuckols, Aubrey J. Nuckols and wife Lisa, and Suzanne Nuckols Hiler and husband Jack. Her grandchildren are Katie, Rachel, Daniel, Dan and Caroline. She has one great-granddaughter, Hallie.

She was also predeceased by her husband, Robert L. "Bobby" Oakes and is survived by Bobby's two children, Beth Oakes and Robert Oakes and grandchildren, Ryan, Matthew, Elizabeth, Colter and Ella.

She was a longtime member of Straightstone Baptist Church, where she served many roles. As pianist, organist, deaconess and Sunday school teacher, she blessed the community with her gifts and, in turn, inspired those around her to offer their best to the Lord.

Our community is filled with her piano students, who saw in their teacher a love of music and beauty. Her patience, guidance and gentle urging are teachings her students carry with them.

Hallie was born into eternity on Sunday, November 24, 2013 at her home in Mt. Airy, VA. It is well with her soul.

Come celebrate her life at 11:00am on Wednesday, November 27, 2013. The memorial service will be held at Straightstone Baptist Church. The family will receive friends at the church following the service and at other times at her home.

Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.colbertmoran.com. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Centra Hospice – 3300 Rivermont Avenue Lynchburg, VA 24503.
