Gretna…….Guy Woodrow Towler, Sr., age 71 of Gretna died Saturday, September 11, 2021 at Centra Lynchburg General Hospital.

Born November 14, 1949 in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of the late James Woodrow Towler and Sallie Watson Towler.  He was predeceased by a son-in-law, Kenny Roach.  Mr. Towler was a member of New Bethel Church of the Brethren where he served as Deacon, Sunday School Teacher, and choir member.  He was a former correctional officer with the Virginia Department of Corrections, and he retired from the Pittsylvania County Sheriffs Department.  He loved traveling with his wife to the mountains; and he enjoyed hunting and fishing.  Mr. Towler dearly loved his family.

He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Yeatts Towler of the residence; one son, Guy Woodrow Towler, Jr. and wife, Susan of Pasadena, MD; three daughters, Tammy Motley and husband, Eric of Chatham, Jennifer Loomis of Gretna, and Cindy Roach of Gretna; two brothers, John Towler and wife, Jeanette of Trinity, NC, and Nelson Towler and wife, Debra of Gretna; one sister, Betty Oakes and husband, Clarence of Hurt; nine grandchildren, Scott Motley and wife, Shannon, Tyler Loomis and wife, Michelle, Benjamin Motley, William Loomis III, Brittany Motley, Brianna Towler, Jake Towler, Cody Loomis, and Victoria Roach; and ten great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 15, 2021 at New Bethel Church of the Brethren by Pastor Greg Hedrick, Rev. Curtis English, and Rev. Jason Andrews.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 10 to 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 15, 2021 at New Bethel Church of the Brethren and other times will be at the residence of his daughter and son-in-law, Tammy and Eric Motley.
