Gretna…..Guy Abner Rowland, age 78 of 129 Brights Road, Gretna, died Monday, October 10, 2011 at Lynchburg General Hospital.
Born September 2, 1933 in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of the late Edison Rowland, and Alice Saunders Rowland. Mr. Rowland was predeceased by his first wife Jewell Saunders Rowland; and three brothers, Russell Rowland, Luke Rowland, and Ray Rowland. He was a member of Summersett Baptist Church and served as a Deacon for over 50 years. Mr. Rowland was a retired supervisor at Klopman Mills, and drove a school bus for the Pittsylvania County School System for 10 years. He was a US Army Veteran, and enjoyed carpentry.
He is survived by his wife Johnnie Faris Rowland of the residence; one son, Randy A. Rowland and his wife, Robin of Gretna; one daughter, Robin R. Dalton and her husband, Keith of Gretna; three brothers, George Rowland of Hurt, Raymond Rowland of Evington, and Kenneth Rowland of Hurt; three sisters, Beulah Shelton of Danville, Naomi Fletcher of Pleasantville, TN, and Nan Jacobs of Gretna; four grandchildren, Dwayne Rowland, Derek Rowland, Nathan Dalton, and Bryan Dalton; and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 A.M. Thursday, October 13, 2011 at Summersett Baptist Church by Ronnie Simpson, and Rev. Ryan Patterson. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 P.M. Wednesday, October 12, 2011 at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home, and other times will be at the residence.
