Gretna……….Guy Carrington Mills, Sr., age 92 of Gretna died Monday, September 18, 2017 at his residence.
Born September 15, 1925 in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of the late Clarence Carrington Mills and Eula Rowland Mills. He was predeceased by his first wife, Katie Dalton Mills. Mr. Mills was a member of Piney Grove Baptist Church and retired from Klopman Mills. He was an Army Veteran of World War II where he was awarded a Purple Heart. Mr. Mills enjoyed hunting and fishing.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley Mitchell Mills of the residence; one son, Guy Carrington "Chip" Mills, Jr. of Gretna; one step-daughter and care giver, Abbie Dawson Witt of Virginia Beach; two brothers, George Mills and wife, Betty of Lynchburg and Don Mills and wife, Barbara of Lynchburg; three sisters, Clara Alter of Renan, Mavis Peregoy of Chesapeake and Doris Estes of Chesapeake; and two grandsons, Preston Scott Mills and Michael Carrington Mills.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Thursday, September 21, 2017 at Colbert-Moran Chapel by Dr. Ricky Ewing. Burial with Military Honors by American Legion Altavista Post 36 and Gretna Post 232 will follow in Green Lawn Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, September 20, 2017 at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home and other times will be at the residence.
