Hurt……….Guy "Jeff" Douglas Matherly, age 83 of Hurt died Thursday, May 23, 2019 at his residence.

Born July 5, 1935 in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of the late Stover Lee Matherly and Willie Owen Matherly.  He was predeceased by three brothers, Harold Matherly, Bruce Matherly, and Clarence Matherly; and four sisters, Doris Matherly, Helen Wade, Gladys Kennedy and Fannie Wade; two daughters-in-law, Wanda Matherly and Bernice Matherly; and a step-grandson, Anthony Owens.  Mr. Matherly was a member of Midway Baptist Church and a retired employee of the Lane Company.  He loved being outdoors and working in his garden.

He is survived by his wife, Lucy Shelton Matherly of the residence; three sons, Doug Matherly of Hurt, Carroll Matherly and wife, Karen of Gretna and Larry Matherly of Hurt; one granddaughter, Melissa Dalton and husband, Larry of Rustburg; two great-grandsons, Brandon Elliott of Hurt and Alex Elliott of Rustburg; three step-grandsons, Dusty Owens, Steven Worley and Jeremy Owens.

Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 25, 2019 at Midway Baptist Church by Rev. Lynn Marstin.  Burial will follow in Midway Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the residence.
