Gretna…….Gracie Seamster Newcomb, age 91 of 2981 Blue Ridge Drive, Gretna died Tuesday, February 19, 2013 at Virginia Baptist Hospital.
Born March 17, 1921 in Halifax County, she was a daughter of the late Jessie Seamster and Nettie Clay Seamster. She was predeceased by her husband, Matthew Newcomb; one daughter, Brenda Cooke; and four brothers, Stephen Seamster, Johnnie Seamster, Lacy Seamster, and Henry Seamster. Mrs. Newcomb was a member of Cody Church of God of Prophecy where she served in many capacities including Pastoral Care Giver. She enjoyed traveling, reading the Bible, going to church, and Blue Grass music. She also enjoyed playing board games with her grandchildren, and was excellent at playing Checkers. Mrs. Newcomb was a home maker and loved cooking for her family.
She is survived by three daughters, Nettie Ann Jefferson and her husband, Jimmy of Hurt, Louise Rudder and her husband, Roy of Nathalie, and Rhonda Thompson and her husband, Tim of Gretna; 8 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 A.M. Friday, February 22, 2013 at Colbert-Moran Chapel by Pastor Darren Massey, Pastor Leslie Rowsey, Dr. Elwood Seamster, and Randy Parker, Minister. Burial will follow in Gretna Burial Park.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 P.M. Thursday, February 21, 2013 at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home and other times will be at the residence.
