Obituary

Hampton………Gordon Ray Watson, age 78 of Hampton died Sunday, May 26, 2019 at Sentara CarePlex Hospital in Hampton.

Born January 9, 1941 in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of the late Fletcher Marvin Watson and Irene Crawley Watson.  He was predeceased by two brothers, Calvin Watson, and J.W. Watson; and five sisters, Beulah Davidson, Sallie Towler, Evelyn Towler, Agnes Blair, and Kitty Doss.  Mr. Watson was a member of New Bethel Church of the Brethren, a graduate of Climax High School, and he earned his Associate Degree from Danville Technical Institute.  He was an Army Veteran and was a retired civil service employee with the United States government.  He enjoyed watching sports on T.V., and visiting his friends and family in Pittsylvania County.

He is survived by four sisters, Elnora Estes and husband, Clyde of Hampton, Patsy Rice of Monroe, Dorothy Yeatts and husband, Rudy of Gretna, and Virginia David and husband, E.J. of Gretna; two sisters-in-law, Christine Watson of Chatham, and Estelle Watson of Chatham; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 30, 2019 at Colbert-Moran Chapel by Rev. Curtis English with Military Honors by American Legion Altavista Post 36 and Gretna Post 232. Burial will follow in Carl O. Moran Memorial Garden.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 10 to 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 30, 2019 at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home and other times will be at the residence of his sister and brother-in-law, Virginia and E.J. David.

The family suggest memorial contributions be made to New Bethel Church of the Brethren, 313 Lark Drive, Chatham, VA 24531 or to the charity of your choice.
