Gretna…..Gladys Thelma Shields Yeatts, age 96 of 104 Franklin Blvd., Gretna died Monday, August 27, 2012 at Gretna Health & Rehab Center.
Born December 23, 1915 in Pittsylvania County she was a daughter of the late John Thomas Shields, Sr. and Hattie Tuck Shields. She was predeceased by her husband of 64 years, Mack Vernard Yeatts; five brothers, H.P. Shields, Darrell Shields, Stanley (Red) Shields, Garland Shields, and J.T. Shields, Jr.; and two sisters, Mollie Neighbors, and Virginia Tuck. Mrs. Yeatts a graduate of Gretna High School, and the last charter member of Pittsville Pentecostal Holiness Church. She was also the Sunday School Teacher, Secretary, Treasurer, and a member of Ladies Auxiliary for many years at the church. Mrs. Yeatts was a Post Master with Pittsville Post Office for 46 years.
She is survived by two daughters, Betty Y. Taylor and her husband, George of Midlothian, and Jo Ann Y. Myers and her husband, Carroll Wayne of Gretna; three grandchildren, Brenda Jo Watts of Midlothian, Michael W. Myers of Danville, and Scottie M. Myers of Roanoke; and five great-grandchildren, Robert Watts III, Brittany Myers, Kaleb Myers, Emma Myers, and Evan Myers.
Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, August 29, 2012 at Pittsville Pentecostal Holiness Church by Rev. Michael Allen and Rev. Dail Yeatts. Burial will follow in Gretna Burial Park.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 P.M. Tuesday, August 28, 2012 at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home and other times will be at the residence.
