Gretna..…..Gladys Saunders Shelton, age 95 of Gretna passed away Tuesday, September 8, 2026 at her residence.

Born November 1, 1930 in Dinwiddie County, she was a daughter of the late Charlie Henry Saunders and Ida Dalton Saunders.  She was predeceased by her husband, Dan Thomas Shelton; a daughter, Pauline Bailess; a son-in-law, Melvin Mays; three brothers, Ed Saunders, Booker Saunders and Norman Saunders; and two sisters, Virginia Jacobs and Doris Epperson.  Mrs. Shelton was a member of Midway Baptist Church for over 70 years where she served as Sunday School teacher for many years.  She was a home maker and caretaker; and loved quilting and staying with people.

She is survived by one son, Edd Shelton and fiancée, Pam Patterson of Hurt; one daughter, Penny S. Mays of Rustburg; a son-in-law, Johnny Bailess of Hurt; five grandchildren, Stephanie Johnson, Kristen Parsons and husband, Josh, Marcilla Monroe and husband, Mo, Karen Patrick, and Daniel Mays.

The family would like to give a Special Thanks to her caregivers, Kathy Gibson, Amy Kepley, Bonnie Cox & Charlene Moore.  Also a Special Thanks to Centra Health Hospice Nurses, Rebecca, Taylor and Carla.

Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 11, 2026  at Midway Baptist Church by Pastor Sean Beck, Rev. Lynn Marstin, and Pastor Ronnie Simpson.  Burial will follow in Gretna Burial Park.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 11, 2026 at Midway Baptist Church and other times will be at the residence.
