Altavista…..Gladys Haskins Barbour, age 89 of Altavista, died Tuesday, October 11, 2011 at Lynchburg General Hospital.
Born March 16, 1922 in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of the late Benjamin David Haskins and Viola Mattox Haskins. She was predeceased by her husband, Alvin Casper Barbour; a son, Clyde Barbour; a grandson, Matt Barbour; three brothers, Ernest Haskins, Kermit Haskins and John David Haskins; five sisters, Edie Blankenship, Mae Robertson, Lizzie Barbour, Doris Moore, and Virginia Blankenship. Mrs. Barbour was a member of Edge Hill Baptist Church and was a retired employee of Burlington. She enjoyed quilting and fishing.
She is survived by two sons, Jerry Barbour and wife, Ruby of Hurt and Paul Barbour and wife, Helen of Gretna; two daughters, Louise Shelton and her friend Roger Butler of Hurt, and Lisa Ewing and husband, John of Long Island; a daughter-in-law, Janet Barbour of Concord, NC; one sister, Hattie Moore of Altavista; 12 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 14, 2011 at Altavista Memorial Park by Rev. Chris Brooks.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, October 13, 2011 at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home and other times will be at the residence of her daughter, Louise Shelton, 4100 Roark Mill Road, Hurt..
The family would like to give a special thanks to the staff at Autumn Care Nursing Home for their care given to Mrs. Barbour during her time there.
