Gretna……….Gertrude Maggie Yates, age 88 of Java died Saturday, June 4, 2022 at Centra Lynchburg General Hospital.

Born July 20, 1933 in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of the late Willie Coleman Rowland and Lois Irby Rowland.  She was predeceased by her husband, William Roger Yates, Sr.; one brother, Lonnie Rowland; one half-sister, Annie Jones; and five half-brothers, Willie Rowland, Jr., Paul Rowland, Harvey Rowland, Thomas Rowland, Jim Rowland, and Robert Rowland.  Mrs. Yates was a member of Java Church of God of Prophecy and she was a home maker.  Her World was wrapped around her son and providing care for him, he was the joy of her life.

She is survived by one son, William "Billy" Yates, Jr. of Danville; one adopted brother, Bennie Mitchell of Danville; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 8, 2022 at Colbert-Moran Chapel by Rev. Edward Pope.  The family will reconvene at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 8, 2022 at Highland Burial Park for the burial.

The family will receive friends at the residence of her niece, Linda and Bernard Dalton, 1825 Derby Road, Gretna.
