Gretna…….George "Sonny" Nelson Pippin, Jr., age 76 of Gretna died Saturday, November 9, 2024 at his residence.

Born January 5, 1948 in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of the late George Nelson Pippin, Sr. and Thelma Osborne Pippin. Mr. Pippin was a member of Sycamore Baptist Church. He was a United States Army Veteran of Vietnam, where he received a purple heart and bronze star. Sonny loved going to auctions and farming.

He is survived by his wife, Kathy Pippin of the residence; three daughters, Sherlene Sommers and husband, Todd, Rhonda McPherson and husband, Shaun of Virginia Beach and Renee Ketner and husband, Adam of Fredericksburg; one son, Sonny Pippin of Gretna; three sisters, Peggy Dalton and husband, George of Gretna, Brenda Irby of Gretna and Judy Bruce and husband, Eddie of Gretna; one brother, Donald Pippin of Danville; 13 grandchildren, Lauren and husband, Toby, Dalton and wife, Whitney, Caleb, Patrick, Dylan, Brittney and husband, Max, Timothy, Joshua, Hannah, Jayden, Kenzi, Luke and Lincoln; 6 great-grandchildren, Max, Elijah, Karma, Isabella, Cloe and Chase; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 16, 2024 at Sycamore Baptist Church by Rev. Ian Rigney and Rev. Heath Lloyd. Burial will follow at the Pippin Family Cemetery.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 16, 2024 at Sycamore Baptist Church.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial donations be made to Autism Speaks, Tunnel to Towers Foundation, or the Alzheimer's Association.

The family respectfully request that all visitors attending please refrain from wearing any fragrance products (perfumes, cologne, lotion, etc…..).
