Gretna…..Garland Bennett Yeatts, age 80 of Gretna died Saturday, February 21, 2015 in Lynchburg General Hospital.
Born April 19, 1934 in Pittsylvania County he was a son of the late Albert A. (Jack) Amos Yeatts and Edna Simpson Yeatts. Garland was predeceased by two brothers, Garcia Yeatts and Ramsey (Booty) Yeatts; and three sisters, Theresa Custer, Jerelene Jones, and Nancie Oltarzewski. While at Gretna High School he lettered in football, basketball, baseball and remained an avid sports fan throughout his life. Garland was a US Air Force veteran of Korea. He joined the Air Force in 1953 and served 20 years as a Supply Clerk. After service he lived in Cheyenne, WY, Denver, CO, Long Beach, CA, San Francisco, CA Latham, IL and Houston, TX. His love of travel took him to Florida, Texas, and Las Vegas. He also loved big cars and Stetson hats. Garland frequently drove west to take bedridden friends to doctors appointments. He was a member of Gretna Christian Church.
He is survived by two brothers, Ryland Yeatts of Alexandria and Richard Yeatts of Gretna; one sister, Margurette (Maggie) Angell and husband, Richard of Roanoke; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Frances Yeatts, Rosann Yeatts and Dale Oltarzewski; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted 2:30 p.m. Monday, February 23, 2015 at Colbert-Moran Chapel by Rev. Dwight Mays and Lee Ashley, Minister. Burial with Military Honors by the US Air Force Honor Guard will follow in the Yeatts Family Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, February 22, 2015 at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home and other times will be at the residence of his brother, Ryland Yeatts, 107 North Franklin Blvd., Gretna.
