Hurt…..James Garland Towler, age 74 of Hurt died Tuesday, December 20, 2016 at Virginia Baptist Hospital.
Born March 8, 1942 in Pittsylvania County he was a son of the late Bernice Hartwell Towler and Carrie Dalton Towler. Mr. Towler was a member of New Bethel Church of the Brethren and attended Sycamore Baptist Church. He was an Army Veteran of Vietnam and was a truck driver for Conway. He enjoyed reading the paper, history and Blue Grass music.
He is survived by his wife, Phyllis Gibson Towler of the residence; three sons, Michael Towler and wife, Kim of Altavista, Craig Towler and wife, Kim of Hurt and Brandon Towler and friend, Brooke Franciso of Hurt; one sister, Catherine Bowles of Chatham; his mother-in-law, Dora S. Gibson of Gretna; and six grandchildren, Erica, Téa, Cameron, Page, Hannah and Brett.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 23, 2016 at Midway Baptist Church by Rev. Gary Phillips and Rev. Lynn Marstin. Burial with Military Honors by American Legion Altavista Post 36 and Gretna Post 232 will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, December 22, 2016 at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home and other times will be at the residence.
