Gretna………Garland E. Shelton, age 84 of Gretna died Saturday, September 30, 2023 at Edley Place Home in Lynchburg.

Born October 21, 1938 in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of the late Acree Hale Shelton and Benna Power Shelton. He was predeceased by an infant daughter, Susan Michelle Shelton. Mr. Shelton was a member and former deacon at First Baptist Church of Gretna and former Fire Chief at Renan Volunteer Fire Department. Garland worked as a farmer for many years before becoming the Owner/Operator of Straightstone Self-Service Store and in later years worked part-time for Colbert-Moran Funeral Home.

He is survived by his wife and high school sweetheart of 64 years, Evelyn Crews Shelton of the residence; one son, Steven Shelton and wife, Michelle of Lynchburg; and one sister, Sue Stoke and husband, Charlie of Charlottesville.

A private graveside service will be held at Carl O. Moran Memorial Garden.

The family would like to give a special thank you to Lynchburg General Hospital, Centra Hospice staff and nurses for their loving care, additional thanks to Betty Delara and her staff at Edley Place for the wonderful end of life care Mr. Shelton received.
