Gretna…….Garith Ray Dalton, age 73 of Gretna died Tuesday, September 27, 2016 at his residence.
Born September 10, 1943 in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of the late Noel Gatewood Dalton and Emily Adams Dalton. He was predeceased by one sister, Joyce Clay. Mr. Dalton was a member of Summersett Baptist Church and was a former employee of Ross Laboratories. After retirement at age 59, Garith never actually quit working. He operated heavy equipment on a private farm and for English Construction. Garith always stayed busy and occupied his time doing what he loved and being with those he loved. He was an Army Veteran of Vietnam. Garith also loved his garden, woodworking, fishing, and enjoyed turkey shoots and target practicing. Mr. Dalton enjoyed spending time and being close to his beloved Sycamore Community.
He is survived by his wife, Judy B. Dalton of the residence and formerly of Nelson County; three sons, Daryl Dalton and wife, Leslie of Gretna, Addison Dalton and special friend, Jenn of Blacksburg, and Joshua Dalton and wife, Kate of Lynchburg; one daughter, Sonya Shelton and husband, Coleman of Gretna; and five grandchildren, Courtney Shelton, Jacob Shelton, Lacey Shelton, Hallie Dalton, and Harrison Dalton.
Funeral services with military honors by Altavista Post 36 and Gretna Post 232 will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 30, 2016 at Colbert-Moran Chapel by Rev. Jason Andrews and Rev. Lynn Marstin.
The family will receive friends at the residence.
