Gretna…Frederic "Fred" Marion Ingram, Sr., age 82, of Gretna, passed away on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, at Guggenheimer Health and Rehab Center in Lynchburg.

Born September 5, 1943, in Lynchburg, he was the son of the late Thomas Marion Ingram and Hazel Mattox Ingram Seawell. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Terry Lee Ingram and John Larry Ingram.

He is survived by his wife, Carol Ann Rowles Ingram of the residence; one son, Frederic Marion Ingram, Jr. of Alexandria; one daughter, Sonja Ann Ingram and partner, Valerie, of Danville; one grandchild, Victor Grayson Ingram; one brother, Dwight Ingram and wife, Donna, of Florida; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mr. Ingram was a graduate of Gretna High School, Class of 1962. After graduation, he served his country in the United States Marine Corps Reserves and was a member of the American Legion Post 232. He continued his education at Lynchburg College, where he earned a bachelor's degree in history. He had a lifelong enthusiasm for history and visiting historic sites.

He retired from Babcock & Wilcox in Lynchburg after 20 years of service. Following his retirement, he owned and operated Crossroads Restaurant in Gretna for 25 years. During that time, he was known for his generosity, often delivering meals to those in need within the community.

A dedicated public servant, Mr. Ingram served for over 20 years on the Pittsylvania County Board of Supervisors, including several years as Chairman. He was deeply committed to improving the quality of life in Pittsylvania County, with a particular focus on economic development and job creation.

Earlier in life, he was an active member of the Gretna Jaycees, reflecting his strong commitment to community service and leadership. He supported Pittsylvania County youth sports throughout his life and was inducted into the Pittsylvania County Sports Hall of Fame in 2024. Mr. Ingram was a longtime member of Greenfield Baptist Church. He deeply loved Pittsylvania County and its people, and he worked tirelessly on their behalf.

Mr. Ingram enjoyed spending time at the beach, especially the Outer Banks, where he vacationed annually with his family. An outdoor enthusiast, he enjoyed surf fishing and canoeing. He and his wife, Carol Ann, also shared a love of travel, visiting destinations across the United States—including Hawaii and Alaska—as well as Canada, the Caribbean, and Mexico. He had a special affection for animals, particularly his family's dogs and cats. He possessed a quiet creativity, artistic talent, fondness for storytelling, and sense of humor that many may not have fully known.

Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 26, 2026, at Greenfield Baptist Church Cemetery by Rev. David Abernathy and Rev. R.G. Rowland, with military honors provided by American Legion Altavista Post 36 and Gretna Post 232.
