Gretna.…..David Frank Ingram, Jr., age 94 of Gretna died Thursday, December 21, 2017 at Runk and Pratt at Liberty Ridge in Lynchburg.
Born December 14, 1923 in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of the late David Frank Ingram, Sr. and May Belle Robertson Ingram. Mr. Ingram was predeceased by his wife, Mary Nella Smith Ingram; three brothers, Terry Ingram, Thomas Ingram and Fairfax Ingram; and three sisters, Myrtle Ingram, Dita Scruggs and Sally Johnston. He was a member and past Deacon of the First Baptist Church of Gretna; and was a member of Anderson Lodge 258 A.F. & A.M. and American Legion Post 232. Mr. Ingram was a graduate of Gretna High School, he received his bachelor's degree from Elon College, where he played baseball, and his master's degree from UVA. Mr. Ingram served Pittsylvania County Schools as a coach and teacher at Spring Garden High School and as principal of Gretna High School. He was a Vice Chairman of the National Beta Club. He was an Army Veteran of World War II along with his brothers Terry and Tom. He received the American Theater Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, World War II Victory Medal, Asiatic Pacific Service Medal with two Bronze Service Stars, and the Philippine Liberation Service Medal with one Bronze Service Star. He was a big New York Yankee and UVA fan. He also enjoyed traveling with his wife and friends.
He is survived by two sons, David Frank "Frankie" Ingram III, and wife Cindy of Hurt and Kent Scott Ingram and wife, Cynthia of Gretna; two daughters, Susan Gwen Ingram Moschler and husband, Ray of Danville and Angie Leigh Ingram Hodnett and husband, Rick of Rustburg; former daughter-in-law, Sherby M. Ingram; nine grandchildren; Holly (Toby) Reese, Nicky (John) Davis, Tyler (Kat) Moschler, Charity (Greg) Peterson, Melissa (Terry) Rains, Yancy (Jessica) Moran, Carly Hodnett and fiancé, Drake Robinson, Jill (Matthew) Harless and Edward "Mac" Ingram; and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 26, 2017 at the First Baptist Church of Gretna by Rev. Dr. Roy N. Ford, Jr. Burial with Military Honors by American Legion Altavista Post 36 and Gretna Post 232 and Masonic Rites by Anderson Lodge 258 A.F. & A.M. will follow in Gretna Burial Park.
The family will receive friends prior to the service from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. Tuesday, December 26, 2017 at the First Baptist Church of Gretna.
