Gretna…..Frances Dowdy Gibson, age 83 of 297 Dewberry Road, Gretna, died Tuesday, July 23, 2013 at Gretna Health and Rehab Center.
Born August 11, 1929 in Halifax County she was a daughter of the late Joseph Preston Dowdy, Sr. and Edith Cage Dowdy. She was predeceased by a brother, John Dowdy; and a sister, Adele Crews. Mrs. Gibson attended First Southern Baptist Church, and was a retired secretary with the Lane Company. She was a graduate of Phillips Business College; and enjoyed quilting, crocheting, and cooking. Mrs. Gibson was the best wife, mother, and grandmother.
She is survived by her husband of over 58 years, Charlie E. Gibson of the residence; two daughters, Sharon G. Martin and her husband, Tim of Clemmons, NC, and Vivian G. Hughes and her husband, Russell of Hurt; two brothers, Joe Dowdy and his wife, Fleecy of Madison Heights, and Clarence Dowdy and his wife, Goldie of Rustburg; one sister, Rachel Hamlett of Forest; 6 grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 A.M. Thursday, July 25, 2013 at Colbert-Moran Chapel by Rev. Bobby Brumfield and Rev. Shelby Royal. Burial will follow in the Gibson Family Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 P.M. Wednesday, July 24, 2013 at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home and other times will be at the residence.
