Gretna…….Forest Bennett Mayhew, age 85 of Gretna died Saturday, October 14, 2023 at Centra Gretna Medical Center.

Born August 3, 1938 in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of the late George Dewey Mayhew, Sr. and Alice McGhee Mayhew.  He was predeceased by his wife, Alice Almond Mayhew; one daughter, Patricia Jean Wilson; four brothers, Donald Mayhew, Darrell Mayhew, George D. Mayhew, Jr., and Tommy Mayhew; and one sister, Ruby Pickral.  Mr. Mayhew was a member of Zion Chapel, and a 50-year member of the Masons, Anderson Lodge 258 A.F. & A.M.  He was a truck driver; and enjoyed NASCAR, bird hunting, and squirrel hunting.

He is survived by one son, Albert "Tinker" Wilson of Lynchburg; three daughters, Linda Dobyns and husband, Terry of Forest, Debra Towler and husband, Nelson of Gretna, and Connie Pickral of Pittsville; one sister, Marjorie Shelton of Greensboro, NC; six grandchildren, Lara Bruce and husband, Chris, Amanda Foster and husband, John, Ashleigh Webb and husband, Nick, Justin Pickral and wife, Kathy, Lindsey Adams and husband, Drake, and Travis Pickral; five great-grandchildren, Luna Pickral, Harrison Pickral, Christian Bruce, Cameron Bruce, and Cohen Bruce; numerous nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Brenda Davis.

Graveside services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 17, 2023 at Zion Chapel Cemetery by Rev Jason Andrews. Masonic Rites by Andeson Lodge 258 A.F. & A.M.
