Gretna…..Floyd Richard Bennett, age 78 of 220 Floyd Bennett Farm Road, Gretna died Saturday, December 8, 2012 at Gretna Health & Rehab.
Born June 22, 1934 in Pittsylvania County he was a son of the late John Eddie Bennett and Ava Graves Bennett. He was predeceased by four brothers, Frank Bennett, Edward Bennett, Harold Bennett and Floyd Raymond Bennett; and three sisters, Iris Price, Ava Mae Kelley and Helen Cocke. Floyd was the retired owner of Bennett's Dairy and a retired cattleman. He was a member of Anderson Memorial United Methodist Church; and enjoyed his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He also enjoyed livestock auctions, fishing, and hunting.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy Wyatt Bennett of the residence; five daughters, Ellen Winn and husband, George of Gretna, Mary Gregory and husband, John of Java, Laura Osborne and husband Marshall of Gretna, Martha Fulper and husband, Pete of Gretna, and Lisa Bailey and husband, Robert of Rustburg; a sister-in-law, Sammie Bennett, of Gretna; 14 grandchildren, Graham Winn, Ethan Winn, John Gregory II, Suzanne Newcomb, Lynellen Gregory, Stone Bennett Gregory, Mary English, Coleman Osborne, Lee Ann Fulper, Bennett Fulper, Kathryn Fulper, Melinda Fulper, Spencer Bailey and Jill Harless; and 5 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 15, 2012 at Anderson Memorial United Methodist Church by Rev. John Snyder and Larry Owen, Minister. Burial will follow in Gretna Burial Park.
The family will receive friends at the residence.
The family would like to thank the staff at Gretna Health and Rehab Center, as well as Dr. R. Duffer, Dr. W.H. Van Dyke, and Dr. Juan Aponte for their care given to Mr. Bennett.
