Gretna…….Florine Clay Simpson, age 88 of Gretna died Wednesday, September 1, 2021 at her residence.

Born March 7, 1933 in Halifax County, she was a daughter of the late Paul Silas Clay and Lottie Montgomery Clay Millner.  She was predeceased by eight brothers, Willie Clay, Johnnie Clay, Junior Clay, Silas Clay, Charlie Clay, Earl Clay, J.T. Clay, and Owen Clay; and five sisters, Viola Crews, Virginia Shipp, Enolia Johnson, Pokie Bliss, and Joyce Millner Rhodes.  Mrs. Simpson was a member of Spring Road Baptist Church and she was a former floral designer with Farries Flower Shop.  She loved gardening, working with flowers, care giving, gospel music, having Sunday dinner with family, coloring books, watching T.V; and watching birds, especially red birds.

She is survived by her husband of 70 years, Lloyd Edward Simpson of the residence; one son, Ronnie Simpson and wife, Carolyn of Gretna; one daughter, Phyllis Farries and husband, Lewis of Gretna; one brother, Robert "B." Millner and wife, Ruth of Vernon Hill; four grandchildren, Lonnie Simpson, Ashley Farries, Cassie Fares and husband, Youssef, and Hannah Coles and husband, Jairen; and four great-grandchildren, Brayden Hedrick, Luke Hedrick, Aya Fares, and Jailen Coles.

Graveside services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Friday, September 3, 2021 at the Simpson Family Cemetery by Ronnie Simpson and Rev. Brian Faison.

The family suggest memorial contributions be made to Spring Road Baptist Church, 2472 Spring Road, Hurt, VA 24563 or to Gideons International, Pittsylvania County North Camp, P.O. Box 57, Gretna, VA 24557.
