Obituary

Gretna..…..Felix Thornton Vasser, Sr., age 95 of Gretna died Tuesday, April 13, 2021 at his residence.

Born July 21, 1925 in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of the late Bradley Newman Vasser and Bessie Dalton Vasser.  He was predeceased by two sisters, Clara Brumfield, and Odessa Hill; one brother, George Vasser; two grandchildren, Joey Bennett, and Justin Hedrick; and one great-grandchild, Corey Layne.  He was of the Baptist Faith and an Army Veteran of World War II.  He retired from Appalachian Power and was a farmer.  He loved his family; and he enjoyed hunting, farming, dancing, riding his four-wheeler around checking on cattle, and playing cards.

He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Annie Bell Hedrick Vasser of the residence; one son, Tony Vasser and wife, Angie of Gretna; six daughters, Betty Vasser of Gretna, Margaret Vasser of Gretna, Peggy V. Blair and husband, Bobby of Gretna, Frances V. Knox and husband, Jim of Gretna, Katherine V. Shriver and husband, Mike of Gretna, and Darnell V. Robertson and husband, Jeff of Hurt; 14 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and 9 great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Thursday, April 15, 2021 at Colbert-Moran Chapel by Rev. Jason Andrews and Elder Raymond Goad.  Burial with Military Honors by American Legion Altavista Post 36 and Gretna Post 232 will follow in Weatherford Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 14, 2021 at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home and other times will be at the residence.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Gretna Fire Department and Gretna Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 14, Gretna, VA 24557.

The family would like to give a special thank you to caretakers, Connie Darnell, Sharon East, and Stacey Dalton.
