Gretna ……Eva Jones Betterton, age 91 of Gretna died Saturday, October 20, 2018 at her residence.

Born April 26, 1927 in Halifax County, she was a daughter of the late Henry Thomas Jones and Chaney Shelton Jones.  She was predeceased by her son, James "Jimmy" Betterton; three brothers, Clarence Jones, Willie Jones, and Lacy Jones; and four sisters, Lucy Waller, Delora Clay, Maggie Mayhew and Addie Mae Clay.  She was a member of Mulberry Baptist Church and was the owner/operator of Betterton's Grocery.  She enjoyed singing in the church choir, playing the guitar, sweeping, bird watching, and spending time with her family and her dogs.

She is survived by two sons, Tommy Betterton and Laverne of Gretna and Timmy Betterton and Kathy of Gretna; six grandchildren, Joey Betterton, Travis Betterton, Kelly Barker, Jake Betterton, Melanie Womack and Mallory Betterton and nine great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 24, 2018 at Mulberry Baptist Church by Rev. David Hanks and Rev. Latta Terry.  Burial will follow in Mulberry Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the residence.
