Obituary

Gretna…..Estelle Updike Mills, age 86 of Gretna went peacefully to be with the Lord on Monday, December 28, 2015 at Carilion New River Valley Medical Center surrounded by her loving family.
Born October 20, 1929 in Brights she was a daughter of the late Lillie Updike Dawson. Estelle and her late husband Shirley C. Mills worked the tobacco fields of their farm together for most of their lives on Glenland Road in Renan. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, and being an active member of Piney Grove Baptist Church.
She is survived by her son, Gerald Mills and his wife, Carolyn Tucker Mills of Christiansburg; two granddaughters, Angela Mills of Christiansburg and Heather Mills McClaugherty and her husband, Brandon McClaugherty of Christiansburg; one great-grandson, Braxton McClaugherty of Christiansburg; a special niece, Brenda Barfield of Mt. Airy, NC; a close friend and lunch companion, Virginia Ann Tucker of Straightstone; and a close friend and longtime neighbor, Shirley Harris of Renan.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 31, 2015 at Colbert-Moran Chapel by Rev. Barry Cundiff. Burial will follow in Gretna Burial Park.
The family will receive friends prior to the service from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday, December 31, 2015 at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Renan Volunteer Fire Department, 232 Camp Branch Road, Gretna, VA 24557.
