Hurt……….William Ernest "Spider" Nichols, Sr., age 90 of Hurt died Wednesday, November 14, 2018 at the Davis Home Retirement and Assisted Living Facility in Altavista.
Born October 21, 1928 in Altavista, he was a son of the late William Osbey Nichols and Eva Kidd Nichols. He was predeceased by his wife, Nancy Allen Nichols; two brothers, Gerald Nichols and Roy Nichols; and one sister, Judy Baer. Mr. Nichols was a retired engineer with Burlington Industries and was an Army Veteran of Korea. He enjoyed playing music at the Spider Web and inventing things.
He is survived by two sons, Ernest Nichols, Jr. and wife, Jane of Gretna and Glenn Nichols and Peggy "P.J." Johnson of Hurt; two daughters, Bonnie Perkins of Hurt and Christy Witt and husband, Chester of Altavista; one brother, Kenneth Nichols of Fairfax; four sisters, Margaret Allen of Hurt, Betty Arthur of Hurt, Madaline Slusher of Altavista and Paulette Dawson of Lynchburg; five grandchildren, Josh Perkins, Carson Nichols, Brandon Perkins, Dylan Chapman and friend, April and Crystal Saul; nine great-grandchildren, Mason Yeatts, Emilee Yeatts, Owen Perkins, Jase Perkins, Abigail Perkins, Molly Perkins, Spencer Arredondo, Madison Craven and Nathalie Saul; and his loyal companion, pooch.
Graveside services with Military Honors by American Legion Altavista Post 36 & Gretna Post 232 will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 16, 2018 at Altavista Memorial Park by Pastor Butch Boley.
The family will receive friends at the residence.
The family would like to give a special thank you to his many care givers including the employees of the Davis Home and Seven Hills Hospice.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Davis Home Retirement and Assisted Living Facility, 1206 Avondale Drive, Altavista, VA 24517.
