Altavista…..Elva Hancock Tucker, age 88 of Altavista formerly of Hurt died Sunday, September 23, 2012 at Autumn Care Nursing Home.
Born September 3, 1924 in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of the late George Lester Hancock, and Susie Katherine Gregory Hancock. She was predeceased by her husband, Francis Haden Tucker; one brother, George Oliver Hancock; four sisters, Annie Cage, Irene Haynes, Gladys Ross, and Bernice Kreger. Mrs. Tucker was very active in her church. Also, she loved to cook and take care of her family.
She is survived one son, Dennis H. Tucker and his wife, Robyn of Gretna; a sister-in-law, Kathleen Worsham Hancock formerly of Hurt now of Acworth, GA; and five grandchildren, Lee Tucker and his wife, Melissa, Emily Tucker Walker and her husband, Jeff, Ben Tucker, Elizabeth Tucker, and Sarah Tucker.
A celebration of her life will be held 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, September 26, 2012 at the Family Life Center at New Prospect Baptist Church by Rev. Brady Willis and Dennis H. Tucker. Burial will follow in New Prospect Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12:30 to 2:00 P.M. at the Family Life Center at New Prospect Baptist Church.
