Hurt……….Ellen Barbour Mason McDowell Chumley, age 99 of Hurt, died Friday, September 23, 2022 at Heritage Hall in Brookneal.

Born July 27, 1923 in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of the late Earnest Lloyd Barbour and Lula Keatts Barbour.  She was predeceased by her first husband, Allen Randolph Mason; her second husband, Elwood McDowell; her third husband, Raymond Wade Chumley; one son, Lloyd Randolph Mason; one daughter, Elsie Mason Dickerson; and three brothers, Lewis W. Barbour, Alvin C. Barbour, and James Craddock Barbour.  Mrs. Chumley was a member of Gospel Light Baptist Church and she retired from the Lane Company.  She enjoyed quilting, coloring in coloring books, and reading the Bible.

She is survived by one daughter, Hilda Smith and husband, Joseph of Hurt; 9 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and 16 great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 27, 2022 Colbert-Moran Chapel by Pastor David Rowland.  Burial will follow in Gretna Burial Park.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 10 to 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 27, 2022 at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home.
