Danville...........Eliza Patterson Hines, age 96 of Danville formerly of Gretna died Tuesday, March 11, 2014 at Piney Forest Health Care Center.
Born May 6, 1917 in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of the late John Jason Patterson and Sallie Lee Aaron Patterson. Mrs. Hines was predeceased by her husband Shelburne Holt Hines, two brothers, Percy Patterson and Ira Patterson; five sisters, Sudie Parsons, Edna Gatewood, Mildred Hogg, Jettie Foster and Helen Phelps. She was a member and former pianist of Gretna Christian Church. Mrs. Hines received her Associate degree from Averett and received her Master's degree from Longwood College. An employee of Pittsylvania County Schools for 51 years, Mrs. Hines taught 6th and 7th grade at Renan and was the Librarian at Gretna High School for 20 years. She was a member and former secretary of the Gretna Chapter #118 Order of the Eastern Star. Mrs. Hines had many interests, including bird watching, traveling, photography and gardening.
She is survived by a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Thursday, March 13, 2014 at the Colbert-Moran Chapel by Wayne Grinnell, Minister and Nan Scruggs. Burial will follow in Gretna Burial Park.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 10 to 11 a.m. at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home.
