Chatham……...Elise Kendrick Oakes, age 103 of Chatham died Sunday, July 11, 2021 at Chatham Health and Rehab.

Born February 11, 1918 in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of the late Olive Green "Dump" Kendrick and Lou Emma Amos Kendrick. She was predeceased by her husband James Barrette Oakes; a son, Dexter James Oakes; six brothers, Arthur Kendrick, Paul Kendrick, Raleigh Kendrick, Henry Kendrick, George Kendrick and Otis Kendrick; and four sisters, Louise Turner, Lizzie Davidson, Cora Rigney and Nella Kendrick. Mrs. Oakes was a home maker and a member of Museville Christian Church, where she was a choir member for over 70 years. She enjoyed canning, freezing, visiting the shut ends and she was famous for her banana pudding.

She is survived by a grandson, Brian Keith Oakes of Browns Summit, NC; and one great-grandson, Everett Paul Oakes.

Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 14, 2021 at Museville Christian Church by Steve Hayes, Minister and Ted Clifton, Minister. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 10 to 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 14, 2021 at Museville Christian Church.
