Edro Dean Simmons, 80, of 119 Riverview Road, Hurt, died Sunday December 18th, 2011, at Lynchburg General Hospital following a brief illness. He was the loving and caring husband of Sue Barker Simmons. He was born in Level Run, Pittsylvania County on June 6, 1931 son of the late William Harry Simmons and Neda Dawson Simmons. He was predeceased by one brother, Morris Simmons; and three sisters, Pearlie Crews, Magnolia Bennett, and Janie Rorer. He retired from the Lane Company after 45 years of service. During his retirement he enjoyed working at Food Lion. He loved being a part of the Altavista Presbyterian Church family. He treasured his membership and lived his faith every day. Edro was an avid NASCAR fan along with his best friend and neighbor "Speedy" (Gerald Nichols). He loved working in his yard and garden and his Siamese cats Buddy and Sissy.
Edro is survived by his wife, Sue Barker Simmons of the residence, his beloved daughter Laura Collier (Steve) of Forest, his adored son Paul Simmons (Maria) of Guyton, GA; his very special grandchildren, Marshall Davis of Forest, Lauren Davis of Forest, Paige Simmons of Guyton, GA, and Brooke Simmons of Guyton, GA; and a step-daughter, Ashley Perkins of Highlands Ranch, CO.
A memorial service will be held 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, December 21, 2011 at Altavista Presbyterian Church by Rev. Kelsy N. Brown, followed by a reception. There will be a graveside service 3:30 P.M. Wednesday, December 21, 2011 at the Barker Family Cemetery, Hurt.
