Gretna……….Edna Wallace Bosiger Midkiff, age 95 of Gretna, died Wednesday, December 27, 2023 at Lynchburg General Hospital.

Born July 6, 1928 in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of the late Charlie Bosiger and Katherine Lovelace Bosiger. She was predeceased by her husband of 61 years, John Raymond Midkiff; four brothers, Eddie Bosiger, Meredith Bosiger, John Bosiger and Charles Bosiger; and four sisters, Rosa Conner, Clara Layne, Mae Rowles and Annie Burnette. Mrs. Midkiff was a longtime active member of Greenfield Baptist Church, where she served as WMU director, Sunday School teacher and Deacon. Edna worked for many years at the Gretna Medical Center and served as a hospice volunteer. Her family remembers many joy-filled meals around her Sunday lunch table. She loved gardening and kept a yard full of beautiful flowers, especially her long row of irises. She had a mischievous sense of humor and in her last years had several political letters-to-the-editor published using the pen name "Ed Wallace." Edna was a devoted mother who sacrificed and fought against the norms of the times for the education of her daughters. She adored her grandsons and provided many days of care, learning and fun for them. Her step-grandchildren came into her life later, but she cared for and influenced them as well. She was a loving wife who cared for her husband at home during his long and difficult illness. Theirs was a long and prosperous marriage. His work enabled them to travel to places that, as a girl growing up in rural Virginia during the depression, she never dreamed she would go. Her legacy to her  family will be long-lasting.

She is survived by her daughters, Betty Pickral and husband, Ronnie of Gretna and Gail Midkiff and husband, Jim Glass of Forest; two grandchildren, Jonathan Pickral and wife, Stacie of Midlothian and Rob Teweles and wife, Kathleen of Charlottesville; two step-grandchildren, James L. Glass and wife, Nicole and Heather Ratliff; four great-grandchildren, Robert Brian Teweles III, Anna Teweles, Jonathan C. Pickral and Eleanor Pickral; four step-great-grandchildren, Lyla Glass, Camille Glass, Chloe Ratliff, and Brinley Ratliff; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 2, 2024 at Colbert-Moran Chapel by The Rev. Kathleen Sturges Teweles. Burial will follow in the Greenfield Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 2, 2024 at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home, and other times will be at the residence of her daughter and son-in-law, Betty and Ronnie Pickral, 1120 Crown Rd. Gretna, VA.
