Chatham……….Edith Catherine Mayhew Kendrick, age 88 of Chatham died Tuesday, April 21, 2015 at Gretna Health and Rehab Center.
Born November 28, 1926 in Pittsylvania County she was a daughter of the late Ollie Coleman Mayhew and Lillie Catherine Gross Mayhew. She was predeceased by her husband, Charles Kenneth Kendrick, Sr.; two sons, Charles K. Kendrick, Jr. and Michael Dean Kendrick; one daughter, Gail Yvonne Allgood; one great-grandchild, Joey Kendrick; six brothers, Eddie Mayhew, Harry Mayhew, James Mayhew, Elmo Mayhew, Roy Mayhew and Irving Mayhew; and two sisters, Ella McClanahan and Ora Scearce. Mrs. Kendrick was a member of New Bethel Church of the Brethren and was a home maker. Mrs. Kendrick was a true southern woman that cared for her family and friends. She enjoyed cooking and working with her flowers.
She is survived by one son, Gerald Lee Kendrick of Chatham; one daughter, Jo Ann Tyler and her husband, Donnie of Gretna; two sisters, Sallie Austin of Homosassa, FL and Hazel Ferrell of Danville; eleven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 P.M. Friday, April 24, 2015 at Colbert-Moran Chapel by Pastor Leo Johnson and Rev. R.G. Rowland. Burial will follow in the McDowell Family Cemetery in Climax.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, April 23, 2015 at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home and other times will be at the residence of her daughter and son-in-law, Jo Ann and Donnie Tyler, 948 Rockford School Road, Gretna.
