Obituary

Edith Kathleen Marr Barker, age 87 died on Thursday, April 5th, 2018 at SOVAH Health Danville after a brief illness.

She was born March 21, 1931 in Pittsylvania County, Virginia to Victor Adams Marr and Elsie Robertson Marr. She was married for 67 years to Harold Scott Barker, Sr., who predeceased her in 2017.

In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her son, Harold Scott "Scotty" Barker, Jr; four sisters, Helen Kelley, Margaret Fox, Mildred Hutcherson and Agnes Stinnette, and a brother, Oliver Marr, who died in infancy.

After working a number of years at both Klopman Mills and Piedmont Manufacturing, Edith retired from Ross Laboratories in Altavista, where she was an administrative assistant. In retirement, she enjoyed visiting and vacationing with her children and grandchildren, sewing, crocheting and crafting. She was active in her church, Spring Road Baptist, where she served on several committees, taught Sunday School and decorated the Chrismon Tree for many Christmases. She was supportive and ever-present at her children and grandchildren's athletic events, concerts, recitals, band performances, parades and graduations.

She is survived by her daughters, Debby Barker and Robin Barker (Seward Anderson) and granddaughter and namesake, Kathleen (Kacy) Moore, all of Danville; a grandson, Adams W Moore, M.D. of Rome Georgia; five sisters, Alta Creasy, Jean DeJarnette (Ronnie), Phyllis Witt (Billy), Roberta Morton (Drever) and Linda Worsham (Mike); two brothers, Don Marr (Linda) and Jimmy Marr (Anne); four sisters-in-law, Flora Davis, Caroline Arthur, Janet Reynolds and Dorothy Kerr and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be conducted 3:00 p.m. Sunday, April 8, 2018 at Colbert-Moran Chapel by Ronnie Simpson.  Interment will follow at the Barker Family Cemetery on Telegraph Road in Hurt.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 2 to 3:00 p.m. Sunday, April 8, 2018 at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home.

The family would like to offer a special thank-you to the staff at Brookdale Assisted Living, including Carrie Tuner, Kearston, Jimesha, Carol and Tosha; Dr. Kwado Ofori at SOVAH Danville; and to a special niece, Sandra Dooley, for her dedicated care and invaluable help during the past several years.
