Gretna….. "Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints." Psalms 116:5. Edison Ford Crews went to be with his Lord on Friday, August 26, 2011 at Virginia Baptist Hospital in Lynchburg at the age of 84.
Born June 1, 1927 in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of the late Jessie Jackson Crews and Gracie Short Crews. Mr. Crews was predeceased by two sisters, Lottie Fisher, and Hessie Burton; and six brothers, Robert Crews, William Crews, Jessie Crews, Walter Crews, Roy Crews, and Verp Crews. Mr. Crews was a member of Straightstone Baptist Church, and was a farmer that worked for the Lord all his life. He also drove a bus for Pittsylvania County Schools for 27 years, and enjoyed gardening, wood working and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Jacqueline Edmonds Crews of the residence; two daughters, Sandra Crews of Gretna, and Peggy Harris and her husband, David of Gretna; one brother, Richard Crews of Gretna; one sister, Catherine Robey of Lynchburg; and two granddaughters, Amy Libeau and her husband, Todd of Lynchburg, and Leslie Harris of Gretna. Edison was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother. He was a treasured, Christ-like example to his family and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted 3:00 P.M. Monday, August 29, 2011 at Straightstone Baptist Church by Rev Paul Woodward and Rev. James Manuel. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 P.M. Sunday, August 28, 2011 at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home, Gretna, and other times will be at the residence, 480 Iona Drive, Gretna.
