Duane R. Wright, age 64, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 30, 2025 in Gretna, VA.

The beloved son of Jean M. (Crider) Wright Brown and the late Val E. Wright, Duane was born May 9, 1961, in Richmond, VA, and raised in Doswell, VA.

A 1980 graduate of Patrick Henry High School in Ashland, VA, he embarked on a career in supermarket service, working first for Safeway, then later devoting 26 years of dedicated service before retiring from Kroger Foods, where he was known for being hardworking, meticulous, thoughtful, and dependable. He took great pride in his work and earned the respect of colleagues through his caring nature, strong work ethic and attention to detail. Outside of work, Duane found joy in many interests. He loved botany, baking, and painting, and was a devoted fan of the Miami Dolphins. Additionally, he was a Ford Mustang enthusiast. Above all, he treasured time spent with his family, valuing those relationships deeply. He also delighted in life's simple pleasures, including Snoopy cartoons and M&Ms collectibles, which brought smiles to those who knew him well. He had a special talent for always remembering birthdays, anniversaries and holidays and sending out beautifully written cards for all occasions.

In addition to his mother, Jean, Duane is survived by two sisters, Loma Jean Lohn and her husband Vernon of Hanover, Pennsylvania, and Shelley Lee Chandlee and her husband Bob of Galesburg, Illinois; as well as two nieces, five nephews and many grand-nieces & nephews, cousins, extended family and friends who will miss him dearly.

Along with his father, Val, he was preceded in death by his baby brother, Rex, his half-brother Robert, his stepfather Richard Brown and his beloved childhood dog, Queenie.

A funeral service will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 3, 2026 at Colbert-Moran Chapel by Duane's brother-in-law, Vernon R. Lohn III. Burial to follow in the Crider Family Cemetery, where Duane will be laid to rest among his family members.

The family will receive friends during a viewing one hour prior to the service from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 3, 2026 at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home.
