Gretna……….Dorothy "Dot" Simpson Rowland, age 97 of Gretna passed away Friday, August 14, 2026 at Centra Lynchburg General Hospital.

Born December 24, 1928 in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of the late John Lucas Simpson and Lucille Walker Simpson.  She was predeceased by her husband, Russell Ramsey Rowland; a grandson, Darren Wills; two brothers, Raymond Simpson and Coleman Simpson; and four sisters, Jeter Cox, Viola Green, Lucille Colbert and Beatrice Clay.  Mrs. Rowland was a member of Greenfield Baptist Church.  She worked on the farm, Chatham Knitting Mill and BGF Industries before retiring from Mecklenburg Electric.  She enjoyed dancing, sewing, gardening and being a caregiver.

She is survived by two daughters, Peggy Sims of Colorado Springs, Colorado and Carolyn Woody and husband, Joe of Gretna; special friend, Walter "Sonny" Hill of Gretna; one brother, Lloyd Simpson of Gretna; two grandchildren, Holly Craft (Glenn Lowe) and Sarah Crews and husband, Daniel; one step-grandchild, J.M. Sims;  five great-grandchildren, Kevin, Jayden, Jordan, Katie and John; and one step-great-grandchild, Liam.

Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 20, 2026 at Greenfield Baptist Church by Rev. David Abernathy, Rev. R.G. Rowland and Pastor Ronnie Simpson.  Burial will follow in Greenfield Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 20, 2026 at Greenfield Baptist Church.
