Evington……Dorothy Beasley Hamlett, age 97 of Evington died Friday, February 7, 2025 at her residence.

Born September 14, 1927 in Appomattox County, she was a daughter of the late Grover Palti Beasley and Virgie Inge Beasley.  She was predeceased by her husband, Claude Swanson Hamlett; and two brothers, Grover Beasley, Jr. and Vernon Beasley.

Mrs. Hamlett was a member of Hollywood Baptist Church in Appomattox and faithfully attended Hurt United Methodist Church during the 45 years she lived in Hurt.  She worked for C & P Telephone for 20 years until her daughter was born.  She was a selfless giver at heart, caring for both her mother and mother-in-law for several years in her home.  She was a wonderful homemaker for her husband and daughter; and was an especially good cook, hosting many family gatherings.  Mrs. Hamlett also enjoyed basket weaving and volunteering at Autumn Care Nursing Home.

She is survived by one daughter, Brenda Johnson of Evington; one brother, T. Benjamin Beasley and wife, Phyllis of Richmond; and many cherished nieces, nephews, neighbors and friends.

Graveside services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 14, 2025 at Greenfield Baptist Church Cemetery by Rev. R.G. Rowland.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial donations be made to Hurt United Methodist Church, 196 Ramp Road, Hurt, VA 24563.
