Gretna…..Dorothy Mayhew Compton, age 95 of Gretna went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, December 5, 2012 at Lynchburg General Hospital.
Born October 11, 1917 in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of the late William "Will" Mayhew and Nannie Robertson Mayhew. She was predeceased by her husband, Aylor Rison Compton; three sons, Aaron Mayhew Compton, Danny Ray Compton Sr., and Lowell Don Compton; and seven brothers, Benjamin Mayhew, Ashby Mayhew, Earl Mayhew, Dewey Mayhew, Clarence Mayhew, Roscar Mayhew, and Jack Mayhew. Mrs. Compton was a member of Zion United Methodist Church and was a home maker. She was a loving mother and grandmother.
She is survived by one son, Jerry W. Compton of Danville; one sister, Vernice Gammon of Williamsburg; five grandchildren, Stanley Will Compton, Donna Martin and husband, Jimmy, Patricia Neal and her husband, Rex, Troy Compton, and Danny Ray Compton Jr., and wife Debbie; and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 P.M. Saturday, December 8, 2012 at Zion United Methodist Church by Rev. Harold Thornton. Burial will follow in Gretna Burial Park.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 P.M. Friday, December 7, 2012 at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home.
