Dora Simpson Gibson, age 95 of Gretna went to be with her Lord on Friday, May 17, 2024 at Guggenheimer Health and Rehab Center in Lynchburg.

Born September 29, 1928 in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of the late Columbus Washington Simpson and Carrie Tuck Simpson. She was also predeceased by her husband, Fred "Billy" Lee Gibson; a daughter, Barbara Fisher; five brothers, Fitzhugh Simpson, Frank Simpson, Taylor Simpson, Glady Simpson and Aubrey Simpson; and three sisters, Mae Simpson, Eunice Hedrick and Agnes Elixson. Mrs. Gibson was a member of Sycamore Baptist Church and was a home maker. She loved working in the yard and tending to her flowers.

She is survived by one son, Ricky Gibson and wife, Diane of Gretna; one daughter, Phyllis Towler of Hurt; 8 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Monday, May 20, 2024 at Colbert-Moran Chapel by Rev. Lynn Marstin and Rev. Ian Rigney. Burial will follow in Altavista Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Monday, May 20, 2024 at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home and other times will be at the residence of her daughter, Phyllis Towler, 1248 Jasper Wood Rd. Hurt, Virginia 24563.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
