Gretna……...Donald Lee Shelton, Sr., age 79 of Gretna, died Tuesday, September 5, 2023 at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital.

Born March 11, 1944 in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of the late Maurice Stuart Shelton, Sr., and Edna Brumfield Shelton Giles.  He was predeceased by two brothers, Buford Shelton, and Maurice Stuart Shelton, Jr.  Mr. Shelton was a member of Zion Chapel and he retired from Klopman Mills.  He enjoyed working on lawn mowers, fishing, hunting, raising a garden; and spending time with family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce Hardy Shelton of the residence; one son, Donald Shelton, Jr. and wife, Kim of Lynch Station; three daughters, Mary Ann Shelton and friend, Bill Scruggs of Richmond, Donna Rorer and husband, Keith of Lynch Station, and Teresa Hogan and husband, Bobby of Hurt; nine grandchildren, Whitney Moseley, Wade Hogan, Daniel Rorer, Adam Blair, Jamie Brown, Bradley Vasser, Megan Utz, Josh Utz, and Austin Shelton; twelve great-grandchildren, McKinnleigh, Paisleigh, Reed, Dylan, Emilio, Bella, Lily, Allye, Aiden, Devin, Brody, and Carlyleen; and one great-grandchild on the way, Adler.

Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Thursday, September 7, 2023 at Zion Chapel by Rev. Jason Andrews.  Burial will follow in Zion Chapel Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the residence.
