Gretna……...Donald Wayne Davis, age 79 of Gretna died Friday, July 29, 2022 at Centra Lynchburg General Hospital.

Born April 21, 1943 in Danville, he was a son of the late Oscar L. Davis and Myrtle Worley Davis.  He was predeceased by one brother, Oscar T. Davis.

Don was a graduate of Newport News Shipbuilding Apprentice School and attended Old Dominion University.  He was employed for 30 years as a government contractor with Singer-Librascope and Raytheon Service Corporation where he traveled the world specializing in U.S. Navy submarine fire control systems.  He was a member of the Church of Christ.  He was very active in Little League Baseball for many years where he volunteered as a coach and an umpire.  Don was a lifetime outdoorsman and hunter who especially enjoyed hunting rabbits, deer, and turkeys with family.  Many days he could be found on the golf course, and he even worked at a golf course after his retirement.  One of his proudest achievements was a hole in one on hole #6 at Oak Valley Golf Club.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Effie Dalton Davis of the residence; one son, Patrick Davis and wife, Susan of Raleigh, NC; one daughter, Susan Styll and husband, Rick of Raleigh, NC; four grandchildren, Scott Davis, Katie Davis, Ethan Styll, and Kayla Styll; and one sister, Judy Yeatts of Gretna.

Graveside services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Sunday, July 31, 2022 at Gretna Burial Park by Ron Voss, Minister.

The family will receive friends at the residence.
