Diane Marie Cox Smith, age 76, of Gretna, VA, passed away on Saturday, December 20, 2025, at Lynchburg General Hospital.

Mrs. Smith was born on June 20, 1949, in Lothian, MD, a daughter of the late Cecil McRay Cox and Lillian Rebecca Tedder Cox.

Mrs. Smith lived most of her life in Maryland and Gretna and retired from Price George's County Public Schools. She loved working in her yard and her flower garden and could make anything grow. She won "Yard of the Week" many times since moving to Gretna. She loved spending time with her family for holidays, sporting events and vacations. Mrs. Smith also loved going with friends to various dinners, shows and many other activities.

Mrs. Smith is survived by her son, Dean Sunderland (Toni); daughters, Missy Lanham (Joe), Melissa Riley and Tracy Peters (Bobby); grandchildren, Eden, Ellie, Jake, Haley Melani, Eric, Stevie, Danny, Kenny and Addy.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Larry Smith and several brothers and sisters.

Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 27, 2025 at the First Baptist Church of Gretna with Pastor Robert Moore officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in Gretna Burial Park.
