Gretna………William Dexter Shelton, age 65 of Gretna died Wednesday, January 8, 2020 at Centra Lynchburg General Hospital.

Born January 17, 1954, he was a son of the late James Norman Shelton and Mary Frances Keatts Shelton. He was predeceased by a nephew, William Ashwell. Mr. Shelton was a member of West End Church of Christ and retired from the Lane Company. Dexter enjoyed hunting, fishing, nature, animals, and spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by one daughter, Tara Shelton Taylor and husband, Rodney of Gretna; one brother, Jimmie Shelton of Altavista; one sister, Annette Ashwell and husband, Mike of Gretna; three grandchildren, Tyler Taylor and wife, Malorie, Tanner Taylor and wife, Sabrina and Elizabeth Taylor; one great-grandchild, Braelynn Taylor; a special aunt, Jeannette Keatts; two nephews, A.J. Ashwell and Jamie Shelton; and a devoted cat, Fred.

Per his request there will be no public service.

The family will receive friends at the residence of his daughter and son-in-law, Tara and Rodney Taylor.
